Dear Participants of BERMUN 2024,

Welcome to the Economic and Social Council!

The ECOSOC topics for this conference will be “Ensuring the Economic Independence of Indigenous Groups” and “Regulating Multinational Corporations to Guard Human Rights.” Amidst the ever-developing global population, indigenous communities have faced marginalization, exploitation, and displacement of their lands and resources resulting in economic disparities and social injustices. Throughout the conference, delegates will work towards upholding these groups’ inherent rights to self-determination, land sovereignty, and cultural autonomy predominantly through establishing stable economic independence.

The theme of BERMUN XXXIII is Fostering Global Citizenship among Identities and Responsibilities. In the modern era of technology and globalization, a united international community is more crucial than ever. With the conference, we aim to connect different identities through discussions and collaboration to reach resolutions for pressing matters. This BERMUN conference will bring together multinational identities with various backgrounds to foster true global citizenship.

My history with Model United Nations began in the seventh grade, seven conferences ago. I started participating in conferences as a delegate at Taipei American School, and I developed my MUN background throughout middle and high school at various conferences across Taiwan and overseas. I am now living in Switzerland and BERMUN XXXIII will be my third chairing experience, and I hope this conference makes my first time in Berlin truly memorable.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all in November!
