Assistant President

of the

ICC

John F. Kennedy School

Dear Judges and Advocates of the ICC,

It is my absolute honor to welcome you to this year’s International Criminal Court, in which I will serve you as Assistant President.

For BERMUN XXXV, the ICC will consider a case where justice, environmentalism, and human rights intersect: The Prosecutor v. Jair Bolsonaro (The Planet v. Bolsonaro). Military officer and former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has been accused of crimes against humanity due to widespread destruction of the Amazon Rainforest— his policies have, allegedly, caused environmental damage to an extent critical to indigenous communities and global climate goals. This case and its ties to the conference theme, “Resilient and Sustainable Development to Combat Climate Inequality”, prompt an intriguing discussion on how climate change correlates to human rights and if it really is our every legal responsibility to protect this planet.

Beyond MUN, I’m an 11th grader at JFKS in Berlin and the daughter of a Bulgarian mother and a Japanese-German father. Growing up multiculturally, international frameworks, politics, and conflicts piqued my interest at an early age. In my spare time, I enjoy writing, watching movies, engaging in challenging debates, and above all, talking to people. I really like tea, crowds, and cinemas. I take pride in being a feminist, which, for me, is a belief that I am willing to defend with all I bear. So, if you’re interested in a conversation on patriarchy, the abolition of gender, or any topic within that range, I’m always free. I can’t wait to meet all of you in November!

Sincerely,

Ariana S. Robak
