Dear Delegates,
Welcome to this year's BERMUN conference! At this BERMUN, we will focus on "Resilient & Sustainable Development to Combat Climate Inequality.” For this reason, the topic of the Security Council is “The Situation in the Lake Chad Basin.” In this region of Western Africa, issues have come to a crossroads. Violence, affecting over 21 million people across Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, and Niger, has created a significant security issue for everyone in the region, but simply suppressing the violence will have no lasting effects since the region is very underdeveloped. To have any chance of making the region safer, the Security Council must help this region develop to avoid a cycle where poverty and instability continue to fuel further violence. Only by addressing the root causes, through sustainable and resilient development, can lasting peace and security be achieved in the region.
Approximately five years ago, I started participating in the Model United Nations. Since then, I have attended 14 conferences, seven of them as a delegate and seven as a chair. In that time, I have learned that the hardest part of speaking is when, out of the blue, you get a question you are not ready for, so I highly suggest all delegates be well versed in their policy, so they can answer quickly and correctly, no matter the question.
I am 17 years old and have lived in Berlin for most of my life, but was born in the beautiful city of Rome, Italy. Therefore, I speak English, German, Italian, and am learning French. Some of my passions are MUN (obviously), languages, playing lacrosse, meeting new people, and spending time with friends.
I'm excited to meet you in February!
