Dear Delegates,

It is my honor to be writing to you all as one of the Student Officers of the Environment Assembly of BERMUN 2026.

The environment serves not as another little piece of the puzzle to look at. It is instead the building block on which all other issues are built. It is because of nature and its wonders that not only we, but all life on planet Earth survives and thrives today. It is, however, almost solely due to our activities that the environment also suffers. With climate change, natural catastrophes, and environmental crises, the world of today stands at a crossroads regarding its future. This year, the theme of BERMUN 2026, Resilient & Sustainable Development to Combat Climate Inequality, deals particularly closely with such problems and the process of finding solutions.

Our committee, the Environment Assembly, is focused on these very problems that threaten life on Earth. By focusing on Biomimicry as a Means for Sustainable & Resilient Development and Preserving Marine Biodiversity, it is my great hope that we are able to both find effective solutions to these pressing real-world problems and raise awareness about the problems nature faces and our duty in fighting against them.

The reason why the Environment Committee and the theme of BERMUN 2026 both speak to me on a personal level is my belief that the fate of future generations lies in our hands. It is up to us, and our generation, to ensure that those coming after will also have the same clean air and blue oceans to thrive in. I believe that with collaboration and diligence, we really can make a difference, and we really can find solutions to our problems.

BERMUN 2026 will be my 10th MUN conference overall, and the 2026-2027 school year is to be my last in high school. Currently, I am still a Junior at Robert College in İstanbul, a beautiful city that has been my home since birth. Besides MUN, I am interested in movies and literature, I like playing the guitar, and I also act for our school’s theater company.

Come November, I want BERMUN 2026 to be an enjoyable, fruitful, and memorable experience for all those involved, and I hope that as a Student Officer in the Environment Assembly, I can play my part in making that vision become reality, together with you. I look forward to meeting you all at the conference!
