Dear Delegates of the Political Committee,

I would like to express my utmost gratitude for welcoming you to the Political Committee at this year’s BERMUN Conference, with its significant theme of “Resilient & Sustainable Development to Combat Climate Inequality”. As someone deeply interested in sustainability and climate action, I believe we will gain priceless hands-on experience in policy-making and diplomacy for climate action while also dealing with the dynamic and complex nature of modern-day politics.

Throughout our debates, we will be discussing some crucial topics, including “Improving Natural Disaster Early Warning Systems” and “Fostering Inclusive Institutions for a Sustainable Future”, which both come up with their unique challenges and complex backgrounds. While discussing the development and integration of early warning systems, the equal and fair distribution of technological systems among countries experiencing contrasting circumstances and the coordination of multiple institutions against natural disasters will constitute the main challenges. Besides these, it would also be helpful for you to be prepared for the complexity of guiding various institutions and parties for solid and effective structural renewals, along with the creation of realistic, long-term pathways for these institutions in a period of rapid change in global trends. Despite these challenges, I believe that the diplomatic pathways and multilateral dialogue that we will be establishing throughout the conference will enable us to overcome these problems as promptly as possible.

On a more personal note, I am currently 17 years old and a sophomore at American Collegiate Institute. Since my very first experiences a few years ago, MUN has greatly shaped my personality and gained me a worldview shaped by international dialogue and collaboration, which makes me want to help share this same vision of international togetherness with my peers. Besides MUN and politics, I have also been intrigued by mathematics and physics; I also enjoy walking and reading. I hope that we will have an unforgettable experience and fruitful debates throughout the conference, and I look forward to seeing you all in November!

Sincerely,

Deniz Ege Demirtaş
