Distinguished Delegates,
Welcome to BERMUN XXXV 2026!
This year’s conference theme is “Resilient and Sustainable Development to Combat Climate Inequality.” The theme highlights the growing imbalance between those who contribute the least to climate change and those who suffer the greatest consequences from it. Developing countries are often disproportionately affected by economic instability, environmental damage, and limited access to resources, while more industrialized nations continue to benefit from large-scale economic growth.
This issue is especially relevant within the work of UNIDO, where discussions will focus on the relationship between industrial development, sustainability, and global inequality. As industries continue to expand worldwide, balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility has become one of the most pressing challenges of our time. Sustainable industrial development, access to resources, and international cooperation will therefore play a central role throughout committee debate, particularly in relation to how developing countries can continue to grow economically without facing the same environmental consequences seen in many industrialized nations today.
On a more personal note, Model United Nations has been an important part of my life since 2021, and chairing conferences such as BERMUN I and II 2024 has made that experience even more meaningful. MUN has contributed greatly to my development of leadership skills, confidence, and a broader understanding of international relations. In the past school year, I was able to spend an exchange year in Texas, which offered many new perspectives and experiences that shaped both my personal and academic growth. Outside of MUN, my interests include dragon boat racing, powerlifting, dancing, cooking, baking, reading, and spending time with friends.
I look forward to meeting all of you in November and hope this committee will foster fruitful debate, thoughtful collaboration, and a truly memorable BERMUN experience for everyone involved.
Sincerely,
Eva Bakker
