Dear Delegates of the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee,

It is my absolute honor to welcome you to this year’s BERMUN conference.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Resilient and Sustainable Development to Combat Climate Inequality.” Climate change does not affect all communities equally. Its impacts vary widely across regions, disproportionately impacting vulnerable populations such as indigenous groups, rural communities, and others with limited access to resources.

Within SOCHUM, this year’s topic, “Sustainable Agriculture to Counter Climate Inequality,” directly reflects this theme. As our global population continues to grow, the demand for agricultural land and production only increases. However, this expansion often comes at a significant cost: environmental degradation, displacement of local communities, food insecurity, and the deepening of social inequalities. As delegates, you will be called to examine how agricultural expansion can be balanced with sustainable practices.

On a more personal note, I am a 17-year-old German-American living in Berlin and have been attending the John F. Kennedy School since the age of five. Over the years, I have developed a strong interest in global politics. In my free time, I enjoy playing various sports, chilling with friends, occasionally playing video games, and reading. I believe that addressing climate inequality is essential for creating a more just and sustainable future, and I am excited to engage with all of you in meaningful debate throughout the conference.

I look forward to meeting you all and working together!

Sincerely,
Hamilton Turner
