Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the 2026 BERMUN Security Council!

This year's BERMUN Conference theme, “Resilient & Sustainable Development to Combat Climate Inequality,” brings to the forefront the Security Council’s topic, “The Situation in Chad Lake,” where the climate crisis has exacerbated violence in the Sahel region due to water and food scarcity, extreme weather, in addition to poverty and unstable governance. While the countries in the basin are some of the lowest carbon emitters in the world, they disproportionately bear the consequences of the climate crisis. The Security Council is one of the most vital organs of the United Nations, as it is tasked with maintaining international peace and is the only part of the UN that makes binding, enforced decisions.

This conference will be my fourth MUN Conference. I am in the tenth grade at the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin, and am 16 years old. I was born in Washington, DC, and have lived for a long time in Southwest Virginia as well as briefly in Florida. I have lived in Berlin, Germany, for three years now.

In addition to participating in Model UN, I am on a sailing team, play badminton, and am involved in drama and technical theater. I also play the piano.

I very much look forward to meeting you all in November!

Henry Gordon Daggett
