Dear Delegates,

I’m thrilled to welcome you to the Political Committee!

We will be discussing the issues of “Addressing Neo-Colonialism” and “Combating State-Sponsored Terrorism”. This year's conference topic, “Building a Rules-Based Order to Withstand Autocracy,” highlights the importance of creating shared global standards that all Member States must follow. A rules-based order ensures, for example, that no country infringes on another’s sovereignty. This is crucial to stop autocratic regimes from cooperating to threaten or undermine our democracies, which are essential to upholding a rules-based order. This is also clearly reflected in our committee topic on Combating State-Sponsored Terrorism because autocracies fund terrorists to try to target democracies. Often, this is an attempt to undermine the rules-based order. It also prevents and hinders all attempts to strengthen or rebuild, or redefine our rules-based order. The funding of terrorism is usually monetary or in the form of weapons and rockets. To counter this, it’s crucial to implement strategies such as transparency as a first step.

On a personal note, I am 17 years old and a 12th grader at the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin. Aside from MUN, I do taekwondo, play football, and enjoy skiing too. I have been part of my school’s Model United Nations program for four years, making this my 10th conference.

I’m looking forward to seeing you in November!
