Dear Delegates of BERMUN,

Welcome to the 2025 World Trade Organization.

This BERMUN conference theme will be addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time: Building a Rules-based Order to Withstand Autocracy. As autocratic regimes challenge global stability, it is important that Member States work together to reinforce impartial organizations and institutions that promote transparency and accountability. By fostering diplomatic interchange between Member States, we can build a rule based system that defends freedom and justice for all. To achieve this goal, we must also recognize that economic structures play a crucial role in upholding fairness. Trade policies must not only foster growth but also support a sustainable economy.

As the global economy seeks to shift towards more sustainable trade, the transition to green trade presents both opportunities and challenges. Member States must balance economic growth with environmental responsibility, reshaping industries, and trade relationships.

In the World Trade Organization, we will explore sustainable trade amid comparative advantage. How can countries maximise their strengths while ensuring sustainable trade policies? What actions promote both free and fair trade? As trade policies adapt to climate commitments, disparities between more economically developed countries (MEDCs) and less economically developed countries (LEDCs) may exacerbate, creating economic tensions.

We will aim to find solutions that promote economic growth while being inclusive of environmental justice, ensuring that the green transition is not just a privilege for a few, but an equitable shift for all.

Having been a dedicated member of my school’s MUN for nearly a year, I have first-hand experience being a delegate. This is my second time chairing, and I bring with me a deep commitment to fostering fruitful debate, ensuring that all of you feel heard and empowered to contribute.

I am a 16-year-old Turkish-American from Berlin, and I like to spend my time making music and going out with friends. I am excited to hear the ideas you will bring to the World Trade Organization.

Let us make this BERMUN as memorable as possible. MUN conferences, like these, are a chance to speak up and let your voice be heard.

I look forward to seeing you all in November!
