Dear Delegates,

At this year’s BERMUN2 conference, we will be discussing various issues within the theme Decolonize. While the importance of decolonization is at times contested, within the ongoing debate, I personally believe the majority of international problems we face today can be attributed to colonialism, which makes decolonization a key part of diplomatic debate for long term peace and equality in our future.

In the Security Council, we will aim to find a resolution to the situation in Haiti. I’m especially looking forward to our debates because I represented Haiti in a conference last year which was challenging as Haiti has no official nor functional government to represent and is de facto ruled by violent gangs. Even though Haiti gained independence from France already in 1804, it has struggled to build a functioning state, for example due to large debts to France. After two centuries of political instability, the ongoing crisis erupted in 2018 after protests due to rising fuel prices. During our committee sessions, we will hear from different perspectives, debate controversial details and (hopefully!) find a much needed meaningful resolution.

I’m 17 years old and in my final year of school at John-Lennon-Gymnasium in Berlin-Mitte. Thanks to my school’s MUN program, I’ve participated in nine MUN conferences and have had the chance to chair four times. In my free time, I like expanding my CD collection, hiking, and spending time with my friends. I also play the flute and sing in our school choir, which I both really enjoy.

I look forward to meeting you all in February!
