Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the Disarmament Committee at BERMUN 2025!

This year, the conference theme “Building a Rules-Based Order to Withstand Authoritarianism” is more crucial than ever. Around the world, we have witnessed democracy coming under attack through the election of authoritarian leaders. It is our responsibility as global citizens to fight against this democratic backsliding.

Our committee's topics of nuclear proliferation and the militarization of space are at the heart of this issue. For decades, nations have sought nuclear weapons in the name of national security, and this has continuously been exploited by authoritarian leaders. Previous attempts to limit the proliferation of nuclear weapons have been criticized for ineffectiveness, and as delegates, it will be our responsibility to bring new and innovative solutions to the committee. Additionally, due to rapid scientific and technological innovations, space has the potential to become the next battleground of international conflicts. It is crucial that the international community preserves space as a shared and peaceful domain.

On a personal note, I am currently in 11th grade at the American School of Warsaw, which I have attended for over six years. Even though I am Polish, I have lived in various countries, including the United States and, most recently, Serbia. Outside of MUN, I enjoy participating in a wide range of activities such as speech and debate, tennis, knowledge bowl, and football. Politics and debate have been some of my biggest passions for as long as I can remember, and I am excited to see the clauses that you come up with.

I can’t wait to see you all in November. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Łucja Perl
