Dear BERMUN2 Participants,

Welcome to the 2025 Security Council! I am excited to meet you all and to serve as your Assistant President during this conference.

This year’s theme, Fighting Inequality, addresses one of the most pressing challenges to global peace and stability. Inequality, in all its forms—whether economic, social, systemic, or cultural—frequently acts as a root cause of conflict and a barrier to sustainable development. Whether it manifests through social injustice, systemic discrimination, disparities in nationality or religion, or inequality tied to gender and sexuality, these inequities undermine security and impede progress. Throughout this conference, we will confront these issues directly, striving to develop thoughtful and innovative solutions that promote fairness, justice, and inclusion.

In the Security Council, we will focus on Fighting Inequality in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Our debates will center around critical issues such as widespread poverty, political instability, and inadequate access to education—challenges that profoundly affect the daily lives of the Congolese people.

Although this will be my first experience chairing a conference, I hope to bring a unique perspective to our discussions. Growing up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with Ethiopian parents, I have personally observed the effects of inequality in society. This experience has fostered in me a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives, and I am eager to learn from the insights that each of you will bring to the table.

A little about myself, I am a sixteen-year-old junior at John F. Kennedy School. Outside of academics, I enjoy a range of creative hobbies, including painting, reading, and baking. I also like to compete in archery tournaments and have a passion for volunteering, as it allows me to give back to my community. Additionally, I love traveling, and I feel that it provides me the opportunity to experience new cultures, meet new people, and broaden my perspective.

I look forward to meeting all of you and being part of a truly memorable MUN experience!

Best Regards,

Maraki Tadesse
